The Chronicle
Every version is a new chapter. Follow along as Inkstone grows into the roleplay platform it's meant to be.
v0.11.1August 4, 2026CURRENT
- Report bugs from inside the app. Found something odd? You can now send a bug report straight from the app, and it lands directly on my desk. The whole screen speaks all 16 of Inkstone's languages, so describe the problem in whichever one thinks fastest.
- Mark a persona as a favourite and it floats to the top of the list.
- Sort your personas by name, newest, or recently used, whichever matches how your brain files them.
- The Expressions section in the character editor now folds up neatly and sits above Advanced, so long character sheets are easier to scan and quicker to scroll.
- Writers' room turns now travel with your backup. If the room argued about a scene, the argument survives the move to a new device.
- A new safety net checks that every piece of data the app learns to remember also makes it into the backup format, so future features can't quietly slip through the cracks.
- The shop has a new home at pay.getinkstone.com.
- The streaming display was rebuilt so that sending, regenerating with a swipe, and Continue writing all run through the same path now.
v0.11.0July 24, 2026
- Characters can wear expressions. Give a character a set of faces in the editor and they show the right one as the story unfolds, live while the answer is still streaming in. There are 28 named slots, from Joy to Disapproval, and three faces already make a lively character. Anything without a face falls back to the avatar.
- Import a whole expression pack as a ZIP. Filenames that start with an expression name, like joy.png, land in the right slot automatically, and the import report explains what was filled and why anything was skipped. Expressions also travel with your backups and restores.
- Inkstone now speaks 16 languages. The whole app, from onboarding to the deepest settings screen, is available in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Czech, Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish, Portuguese, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.
- Every chat can pick its own Chat language, separate from the app language. New answers arrive in that language directly, and existing messages can wear a Translation: the original stays untouched underneath and one tap flips any bubble back. Translate a single message or sweep the whole chat.
- Translations are written by your own model, a translator profile can route translation work to a cheaper connection while the story itself keeps your good model. Translations carry through exports, forks, backups, and restores.
- The chat view holds still. Five separate causes of scroll drift were hunted down and fixed, so streaming, expanding a message, toggling the thinking section, and continuing a reply all leave your reading position exactly where it was.
- Chat export and backup stay fast even for very large libraries.
- Chat previews in the Chats list show the same clean text as the bubbles.
- On wide desktop windows, each chat tile's timestamp and actions hug the right edge again instead of floating mid-screen.
- System messages that render as bubbles can wear Translations like everything else.
- Greeting images open in full view.
v0.10.1July 16, 2026
- Find text inside the current chat with highlighting, result counts, and previous or next navigation. Results open directly on the matching message.
- Search across every chat directly from the Gallery.
- Organize characters with favorites and custom folders you can create, rename, reorder, and manage.
- Sort characters by name, import date, or when you last chatted.
- Expand character details into a larger, desktop-friendly view.
- The experimental Writer's desk can draft a reply, send it through a separate First reader profile, and let you approve or revise the result. Chats using Writer's desk also gain an editable Notebook for important story facts, with snapshots that stay aligned across response alternatives. Each answer keeps its review status, including anything still Unsettled.
- Windows now ships as a portable ZIP instead of an installer. Unzip it anywhere and run Inkstone straight from the folder. Your characters, chats, and settings carry over, including from installer versions.
- Connection profiles can save generation settings including Temperature, Top-P, streaming, and context limits.
- Gallery sections make Favorites, Folders, and unfiled Characters easier to scan, with stronger keyboard access, screen-reader labels, large-text layouts, and reduced-motion support.
- Gallery search closes with Escape, and folder ordering remains usable while dragging near the edge of the scrolling Gallery.
- Backups now preserve Gallery organization, connection profile settings, and Writer's desk state. Restore summaries also explain when characters were organized into folders.
- Only one assisted generation mode can be active in a chat at a time, keeping Writer's desk and other assisted modes from tripping over each other.
- Deleting a character now tells you how many associated chats and conversation histories will also be removed.
- Creator notes with HTML formatting now render more reliably.
- Folder filing and restore are more reliable, preventing partial changes from leaving characters in an inconsistent state.
- Applied profile Undo now restores the complete previous connection, generation settings, and prompt state.
- Writer's desk handles Notebook markers more conservatively, keeps the selected First reader profile after restore, and preserves the complete draft when a revision fails.
- Forked chats can once again be renamed to the character's name.
- Windows opened on a disconnected monitor now return safely to a visible display.
- The Windows app remembers its size, position, and maximized state between launches.
v0.10.0July 8, 2026
- Lovense toy support. Inkstone can now link to Lovense Remote over your local Wi-Fi and let characters drive toys during a scene. Set it up under Settings → Integrations → Lovense Toys, link your toys, and a status chip on the chat screen shows when they're active. Stop all is one tap away, and toys stop automatically on cancel, regenerate, unlink, and app close.
- Writers' room. A new multi-model generation mode where several Writers draft in parallel and one Editor merges their takes into a single answer. Configure Writers and the Editor from saved Connection Profiles, enable it per-chat from Chat Options, and each room turn runs one request per Writer plus one Editor request. Room-made answers carry a quiet badge and you can view individual takes, see which Writers failed, and re-edit by rerunning the Editor over retained takes.
- Settings reorganized. A clearer layout with dedicated sections for Connection, Model & Context, Writing, Library, Appearance, Integrations, and App & Data. Ghostwriting and the Writers' room now live under a new Writing hub, alongside a Writer's desk tile marked as coming soon.
- API Profiles show readiness problems more clearly, especially missing API keys after a restore.
- Windows updates now hand off to your browser instead of downloading and launching the installer from inside the app. Android keeps its assisted update flow. Mandatory Windows updates still block use until handled.
- Windows now defaults to the Skia renderer to avoid the blank or corrupted surfaces that could appear on some devices under Impeller.
- Full app backups now include Writers' room configuration and Lovense link and template settings. API keys remain excluded and must be re-entered after restore.
- Save-on-exit screens now actually save before the back button leaves.
- Restore no longer creates duplicate prebaked prompts. Older backups that left behind duplicate Evening-Truth or Marinara prompts are repaired on startup, and existing references are remapped to the surviving prompt.
- Context summaries rewind correctly after editing, regenerating, continuing, or switching alternatives, so stale summary data no longer poisons later context.
- Writers' room data fixes: room-made answer badges survive after takes are pruned or cleared, additive restores respect the 8-Writer cap, and malformed Editor note tails no longer leak into saved answers.
- Lovense fixes: saved address prefills correctly, setup copy calls out the SSL port, Game Mode toy lists arriving as JSON strings are handled, and Stop all no longer does noisy work while unlinked.
- Layout overflows fixed on small windows and large text scales, including onboarding, gallery cards, achievements, and the theme picker. Desktop gallery card tag chips no longer overflow fixed grid tiles.
v0.9.1July 2, 2026
- Inkstone now keeps itself up to date. The app checks for new releases and installs them from inside the app on both platforms: Android downloads the update, verifies it, and hands off to the normal Android install confirmation, while Windows applies it in place and relaunches Inkstone afterward. Every update manifest is cryptographically signed and every download is checksum-verified before anything installs; if verification fails, Inkstone refuses the update and points you to this site instead. Regular updates can be dismissed, and mandatory ones are reserved for urgent fixes. This is the last version you'll need to fetch by hand.
- Update checking stays under your control. It arrives with a one-time notice on your first upgrade, only ever asks getinkstone.com for version info, and your writing stays on your device. Settings gains a Check now button for looking manually, and a toggle to turn automatic checks off entirely.
- Windows now ships as a proper per-user installer instead of a portable ZIP. Shortcuts stay stable across updates, there's a normal uninstall entry, and admin rights are never asked for. Your characters, chats, and settings carry over automatically.
- Single taps in editable text fields now reliably place the caret instead of selecting a random word or chunk of text. Yes, this one again. This time the fix covers every field in the app: the chat composer, inline message editor, search fields, dialogs, and settings inputs. Double-tap and long-press selection still work the way you'd expect.
- Auto-summary now falls back to your main chat model when a custom summary model fails or returns an empty answer, so summaries generate more reliably. Manual summary generation also gives clearer feedback when there are not enough old messages yet.
- Roleplay syntax coloring handles more cases correctly, including mixed quote styles like curly quotes and guillemets, and nested dialogue, action, italic, and bold markers.
- Lorebook keyword matching is now Unicode-aware, so accented and non-Latin words are matched properly instead of being treated as broken word boundaries. Token budgets respect priority ordering more predictably, and the entry editor now allows keyless non-constant entries and explains that they stay dormant until you add a key or mark them constant.
- Desktop snackbars are capped to a sensible width on wide windows, so they no longer sprawl across the bottom of the app or overlap the actions in the corner.
- Several settings and form controls were updated for newer Flutter behavior, mainly to keep the app stable and warning-free.
- Auto-summary failures are now shown clearly in the relevant chat instead of being silently lost.
- Keyless non-constant lorebook entries are preserved on import instead of being dropped.
- Unclosed formatting markers no longer bleed across blank lines into later paragraphs, and inch marks like 7" are less likely to confuse the dialogue parser.
v0.9.0June 21, 2026
- Restore from a backup. Exporting an all-data ZIP has been around for a while, but loading it back in was manual. Settings → Backup & Restore now completes the round trip: restore a backup on the same device, a new device, or a fresh install. Restore is additive and safe to re-run, since it only adds what you don't already have and never overwrites or deletes anything. Afterward you get a plain-language summary ("Added 3 characters, 12 chats…") and choose whether to also apply the backup's theme, appearance, and connection settings or keep your current ones.
- A copy button now sits beneath each message and copies the text with its original formatting, line breaks and markdown kept intact.
- Botbooru is now listed as a character source in the "Where to find characters" sheet.
- Saved API configurations are now Connection Profiles. Your old name-only setups have been rebuilt as full profiles: each one carries a custom icon and an optional linked default system prompt, can be edited in place, and applies to your active connection in a single tap, with Undo. Existing saved configurations carry over automatically on first launch.
- Backups now carry more. Alongside characters, lorebooks, prompts, personas, backgrounds, settings, and optionally conversations, a backup now also includes your Connection Profiles, premium unlocks, achievement progress, and chat folders and tags. The screen is now "Backup & Restore," formerly "Export All Data."
- Transient API failures now retry automatically, so a brief network or server hiccup no longer aborts a generation. Error messages are also more specific about what went wrong.
- A new chat's opening greeting now stays in view instead of being pushed off-screen.
v0.8.3June 18, 2026
- Transcript export: keep your stories as shareable documents. Export any chat as clean Markdown (.md) or a styled PDF with your equipped theme's colors and bubbles, and character and persona portraits inline beside each turn. The existing .jsonl chat backup remains the re-importable format for moving chats between devices.
- SHA-256 checksums are now available on the download page. Each release has a separate SHA256SUMS file you can grab to verify your download is byte-for-byte intact.
- The update checker now points at getinkstone.com. The old domain forwards, so older versions still work.
- Unsent composer text is preserved. Type a message, navigate away without sending, and your draft is still there when you return.
- Caret and selection no longer jump when reopening the character editor.
- Inline message-editor selection stays isolated from chat-bubble text selection.
- No more false "export failed" errors on mobile chat export.
v0.8.2June 16, 2026
- Regenerate replaces the answer in place. The new response streams where the old one was, and you can swipe between it and your previous versions while it's still being written.
- Arrow keys switch between answer versions for alternate greetings and regenerated responses.
- Alternate message navigation wraps around: next past the last loops to the first, and previous from the first loops to the last.
- Your reading position stays locked while a reply streams. The scroll system was rebuilt, so what you're reading holds still while new tokens grow below.
- The Persona, Lorebook, and System Prompt pickers in the chat options sheet scroll inside the sheet instead of running off the bottom of the screen.
- Tapping the message box on Android places the cursor instead of selecting a word. I've killed this one before. It's staying dead.
v0.8.1June 12, 2026
- Chat scrolling stays calmer while the AI types: scroll up to read and new text grows downward instead of pushing you away. When you're reading older messages, a small jump-to-latest control appears so you can snap back when ready.
- Character export is available from more screens and works straight from unsaved edit-form changes, so you don't have to hit save twice just to share a card.
- Stopped or failed streams now preserve every word that reached your screen instead of vanishing.
- Editing the default system prompt no longer accidentally removes its default status.
- File picking for imports and background images is more reliable across Android and Windows.
v0.8.0June 7, 2026
- A proper desktop layout on wide windows: a side navigation rail in place of the bottom bar, a multi-column gallery, and chat that fills the screen instead of hugging the middle. Your phone stays exactly as it was.
- Import characters straight from a link: paste a character-card URL and Inkstone downloads and adds it for you, no file juggling.
- Lorebooks that follow your characters: link a standalone lorebook to a specific character instead of having to embed it in the card, and mark any lorebook as a default so it switches on for every new chat from the start.
- Chat bubble opacity control, plus richer dedicated styling for standout bubbles in the Hanami and Ember Sanctum themes.
- Inline image previews in chat: image links now render as a preview instead of a bare URL.
- The reasoning panel for thinking models now stays open after the reply lands and holds the scroll position you left it at, instead of snapping shut or leaping to the bottom.
- Smarter lorebook matching that respects whole words, so entries activate only on genuine matches and unrelated lore stops creeping into your context.
- Scroll up to revisit earlier messages mid-reply without being yanked back down. Auto-follow picks back up once you return to the newest message yourself.
- Reasoning traces carried inside an imported chat can no longer trigger lorebook entries, so a model's imported private thinking stays out of your keywords.
v0.7.0June 5, 2026
- Full appearance engine. Palettes, fonts, bubble styles, animations, backgrounds, syntax colors: all configurable, all in one place.
- Per-chat appearance overrides, so every conversation can carry its own visual identity. Different background, different mood, same app.
- Upload your own backgrounds and manage them in a reusable library. They persist across sessions and travel with your data exports.
- Two new premium themes, Crystal Veil and Abyssal Tide, plus OpenDyslexic added as a free accessibility font.
- Font size slider. Yes, finally.
- Embedded system prompts from character cards now surface in the chat system prompt picker when the active character carries one, so you can see what's actually running.
- Lissandra joins the gallery as a bundled starter character. She's been in the app since v0.1.0, waiting patiently.
- Smarter summary handling: stale summaries reset cleanly, generated summaries activate properly, and empty ones release their bookmarks.
- Context retention hardened across the board.
- Example dialog correctly yields to real chat history when context runs short.
- Dropped examples stay dropped and can no longer resurface in protected system text.
- Regenerating a summarized message properly clears stale summary data.
- Fork, regenerate, and continue flows trigger auto-summary checks like normal sends.
v0.6.1June 2, 2026
- Update notifications: optional toggle in Settings that checks a public JSON file on inkstone.uk for new versions. The check is read-only and sends nothing back.
- Stabilized inline message editing on Android with stable row keys and collapsed edit selection. Tapping into a message to type no longer force-selects content.
- Preserved the seeded assistant greeting as the first message in context and outgoing chat requests. The opening greeting no longer vanishes after the user's first reply.
- Fixed Start Chat and Fork so setup failures no longer prevent navigation to the new chat once the row is created.
v0.6.0May 30, 2026
- Per-chat actions in the Chats tab: rename, move to folder, edit tags, and delete without leaving the list.
- Achievement system: 18 achievements, a mix of visible and hidden — hidden ones stay masked until unlocked, because half the fun is not knowing they exist.
- Trophy Room in Settings with a cabinet-style display for everything you've earned, for those of you who like to admire your own shelf.
- Improved chat recency so newly active chats and forked conversations surface at the top where they belong.
- Stable lorebook entry sorting: switch between creator/import order and alphabetical, with your preference remembered across sessions.
- Fixed chats opening at a random middle scroll position — yes, again — so your conversations reliably land on the newest message.
v0.5.1May 25, 2026
- System prompt import with auto-detection for SillyTavern and other formats, full field mapping including pre-history, post-history, and sampler settings.
- Ghostwriting from imports: when an imported prompt includes an impersonation instruction, Inkstone offers to set it as your custom ghostwriting prompt.
- Fork Conversation button now visible in the action row below every assistant message.
- Fixed opening an existing chat scrolling to the middle of the conversation instead of the bottom.
- Fixed the character detail sheet action bar overflowing on narrow screens, clipping the Start Chat button.
v0.5.0May 23, 2026
- Bulk Character Import: drop an entire folder of character cards and Inkstone processes them all at once, with a warning-and-error report so you know exactly what landed.
- Gallery Search: type into the search bar and results filter instantly with debounced input — empty states tell you whether your gallery is truly empty or just filtered down to nothing.
- Full Data Export: back up your entire library as a single archive — characters exported as V2 PNG cards with embedded metadata, lorebooks, system prompts, personas, chats, and settings, all wrapped with a manifest.
- Avatar Fullscreen Viewer: tap any character avatar to see the full uncropped image in a smooth fullscreen viewer with pinch-to-zoom.
- Avatar Crop Positioning: after picking an image, drag it behind a circular cutout to control exactly what part stays visible — adjustable later from the edit screen.
- Persona Avatars: upload a profile picture for your persona and it appears next to your messages in chat.
- Additional tooltips wired into character creator fields and settings tiles, giving context without leaving the screen.
- Debug mode with HTTP log viewer and streaming completion tracker for when you need to see what is actually going over the wire.
- 21 raw error interpolations replaced with structured error classification across 19 screens.
v0.4.0May 17, 2026
- Character Creator: build your own characters from a blank slate with a full guided creation flow.
- Character Cloning: open any character's detail sheet and tap Clone to create a full copy you can edit independently.
- Ibara available as a starting template in the creator, so you can study or remix an existing character instead of starting from nothing.
- Playbook links embedded throughout the character creator, giving new authors reference material without leaving the app.
- All multiline input fields now resize dynamically with the keyboard instead of staying fixed-height.
v0.3.0May 9, 2026
- Continue Writing: assistant messages now have a Continue button that lets the AI pick up mid-thought and append to the existing message.
- Ghostwriting: write a rough outline or steering prompt, tap the ghost button, and Inkstone replaces your draft with a polished suggestion based on recent chat history.
- Chat Forking: fork any conversation from an assistant message, creating a new chat from that point with rebuilt lorebook state and summaries.
- Settings screen reorganization: merged Generation + Context into "AI Settings," combined Display + Personalization into "Display & Appearance" (7 sections → 5).
- Ghostwriting settings screen with toggle, custom model field, and custom prompt.
- Added Section VII index to local catalog.
- Internal: migrated legacy references to /library/note-1.
- Fixed ghostwriting lifecycle bug where long requests could finish but leave the draft unchanged.
v0.2.1April 30, 2026
- Active chats now update their message counts, timestamps, and list order consistently after every message action.
- Manual and automatic summaries now use the same persona and prompt context as normal generation, reducing identity drift in long-running chats.
- Assistant responses and swipe alternatives save more safely, with better protection against half-written message state.
- API and summary settings save more intentionally, with fewer redundant writes and better protection against losing changes when leaving a screen.
- Oversized or malformed character and chat imports are rejected cleanly instead of risking hangs or memory spikes.
- Failed sends from invalid settings or API configuration now preserve your draft instead of discarding it.
- Streamed responses handle split UTF-8 correctly, fixing corrupted emoji, accented characters, and CJK text.
- Malformed chat and lorebook URLs now show a Not Found state instead of crashing the app.
- Default persona and system prompt handling is more robust, including migration repair for duplicate defaults.
v0.2.0April 26, 2026
- Chat import and export with SillyTavern .jsonl compatibility: back up your conversations or move them between apps seamlessly.
- Syntax-colored roleplay text: dialogue in quotes, *actions in asterisks*, and narration each display in distinct colors that adapt to your chosen theme.
- Syntax color settings card in Personalization: toggle the feature on or off, and preview how your theme's color palette looks.
- Onboarding now lets you choose between Marinara's modular prompt or Evening-Truth's granular content prompt right during setup.
- Context Summary: older messages are condensed into a narrative summary via a separate AI request, keeping recent messages live in context. Enable it globally for new chats or per-chat from the summary sheet. Configurable trigger interval, retention window, max tokens, and custom prompts — or use the built-in roleplay-optimized summarizer. Summaries can be viewed, edited, and cleared at any time.
- Fixed a race condition where syntax color settings could be missed if toggled too quickly during app startup.
v0.1.8April 19, 2026
- Premium theme system with 8 themes: 4 free color palettes (Standard, Crimson Noir, Midnight Ember, Forest Shadow) and 4 premium themes with animated backgrounds, custom typography, unique typing indicators, and per-theme effects.
- Ko-fi shop integration for purchasing premium theme keys, paired with a one-tap key import flow.
- 2-column theme selector in a new personalization screen with lock indicators and active theme preview.
- Key-based premium unlock using .inkstone key files for individual themes.
- Persona text input now dynamically resizes to fit your content.

- Chat folders with custom names to organize your stories however you want.
- Chat tags with custom colors: label any chat with multiple tags and filter the list by any combination.
- Bulk edit mode: long-press any chat to multi-select, then delete, move, or tag many chats at once.
- Five sort modes (Last message, Name, Created, Updated, Custom order) with stable tie-breakers.
- Group-by-folder view collapses the chat list into per-folder sections with one toggle.
- Persistent folder and tag pill rows above the chat list, always one tap away.
- "Unfiled" quick filter to find every chat that doesn't have a home yet.
- Sort mode, active folder, tag selection, and group toggle all survive an app restart.
- Stale-filter auto-heal: deleting an active folder or tag no longer leaves the chat list stranded empty.
- Safer folder and tag name validation, case-correct Unicode sorting, and double-tap guards across the chat list menus.
v0.1.6April 6, 2026
- Active lorebook entries viewer — see exactly what lore is being injected, with scrollable list and clickable navigation.
- Bundled Ibara character upgraded to full "Thorns and Borrowed Warmth" card with 24 lorebook entries.
